If there is a firmware update available for one (or all) of your SpeedLight devices, you will receive a prompt in the SpeedLight app to update the device. The prompt will let you know which device needs updating. All updates can be easily carried out by you – no need to return your system to Swift for the update.
These updates may become available for your:
- SpeedLink,
- SpeedReader,
- SpeedLight Timing Gates, and
- SpeedStart.
Updating your SpeedLink
Each SpeedLight System comes with a MicroSD Card, and a SD Card Adapter. You will need the MicroSD Card (or you can supply your own if the original has been lost, just keep the storage size under 16GB) to update the firmware of your SpeedLink and SpeedReader.
If you receive a prompt to update your SpeedLink firmware, carry out the following steps:
- Insert the MicroSD Card into the “microSD” slot on the top of the SpeedLink (below the charging socket)
- Select ‘Update Now’ on the SpeedLight app prompt
The app will now copy the latest firmware files wirelessly to your MicroSD Card in the SpeedLink (may take a few minutes) - Once the transfer is complete, the SpeedLink will automatically shut down
- Turn on your SpeedLink and reconnect your SpeedLink to the SpeedLight app as per usual
Your SpeedLink will have automatically updated its firmware while booting up and is ready to use with the latest SpeedLink firmware installed.
Updating your SpeedReader
Each SpeedLight System comes with a MicroSD Card, and a SD Card Adapter. You will need the MicroSD Card to update the firmware of your SpeedLink and SpeedReader.
If you receive a prompt to update your SpeedReader firmware, carry out the following steps:
- Insert the MicroSD Card into the “microSD” slot on the top of the SpeedLink (below the charging socket)
Make sure you insert the card into the SpeedLink (red box), not the SpeedReader just yet. We need to retrieve the update files first. - Select ‘Update Now’ on the SpeedLight app prompt
The app will now copy the latest firmware files wirelessly to your MicroSD Card in the SpeedLink (may take a few minutes) - Ensure your SpeedReader is turned off
If it is still on, hold down the red power button until the red light comes on solid, and release. - Once the transfer is complete, remove the MicroSD Card from the SpeedLink and insert it into the SpeedReader
- Turn on your SpeedReader
Your SpeedReader will have automatically updated its firmware while booting up and is ready to use with the latest SpeedReader firmware installed.
Updating your SpeedLight Timing Gates and/or SpeedStart
If you receive a prompt to update your SpeedLight Timing Gates and/or SpeedStart, you will need a USB Flash DriveĀ with a capacity of 16GB or less.
You will need to load the latest firmware files to the USB Flash Drive, which you can do by:
- Downloading the compressed folder containing the latest update files here > MicroSD Card Content
- Extract all the files from the compressed folder to the USB
Or,
- Copying the files to the MicroSD Card inserted in the SpeedLink, as described in “Updating your SpeedLink” (see above)
- Using the SD Card Adapter and a computer to copy the firmware files directly to the USB
Now you have the files copied onto a USB Flash Drive, carry out the following steps to update each Timing Gate/SpeedStart individually:
- Ensure SpeedLight Timing Gate/SpeedStart is turned off
- Insert USB Flash Drive into USB socket on device
- Turn on device
Wait 15 seconds. - Remove the USB Flash Drive
- Reset the device by holding the power button down for 5 seconds, and releasing
Your SpeedLight Timing Gate or SpeedStart has now automatically updated its firmware to the latest available version and is ready for use.
